NICL Scam: Absconding Elahi’s bank account frozen

LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has decided to get Chaudhry Moonis Elahi’s proclamation order from court, freeze his movable and immovable property, bank accounts and approach Interpol for his arrest.
An amount of Rs1.4 million in a private bank account, belonging to a company owned by Elahi, has been frozen on the request of FIA, sources said.
The FIA has also summoned Elahi’s counsel, who had submitted an undertaking with the FIA promising that Elahi, who is currently abroad, would appear before FIA investigators on Sunday last.
The process of freezing Elahi’s property would begin after securing a proclamation order from the court on Tuesday, said the FIA’s additional director-general, Zafar Queshi.
“I’m not involved directly or indirectly in NICL scam in any way,” said Elahi while talking to The Express Tribune over the phone from UK, adding the investigations against him are personally motivated since Qureshi, who is heading the FIA team investigating the NICL scam, holds a personal grudge against his father, the former chief minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.
Elahi said that Mohsin Habib Warraich, principal accused in the scam who is also currently in the UK, has sent an affidavit attested by the Pakistani High Commission in UK stating that Elahi has no concern with the NICL scam and its related financial transactions.
“I will soon return to Pakistan and face the courts,” he said, adding the FIA is forcing his company’s manager, currently under the agency’s custody, to implicate him in the scam.
Qureshi, on the other hand, rejected Elahi’s claims and said the investigations are being conducted in a transparent manner.
Meanwhile, the FIA has detected two more properties, belonging to Warraich, in DHA Lahore and cautioned the authorities concerned in this regard. The agency is also conducting raids for the arrest of two legal advisers of NICL, Masroor Shah and Asif Mehmood, who had managed to obtain pre-arrest bails from the court till February 9. The agency has solid evidence against them to get their bail plea rejected and will arrest them on February 9, sources said.

Shujaat invites JUI-F to form government in Balochistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has invited the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam -Fazal (JUI-F) to from new coalition government in Balochistan.

This he said while talking to reporters after addressing the Charismas ceremony here at the PML-Q Secretariat, he said PML-Q and JUI-F could form the government in Balochistan.

Earlier, addressing the Charismas ceremony Shujaat Hussain said that legislation is required to stop the exploitation of the Blasphemy laws, adding that those who involved in the misuse of the Blasphemy laws should be punished.

He said that Asia Bibi refused to committing Blasphemy of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), adding that no law can allow to punish the innocents.

Akram Masigh Gill MNA has said that the participation of people from all schools of thought in the Charismas ceremony would promote interfaith harmony and unity among the nation.

Attia Inayat Ullah MNA said that according to the thoughts of Quaid-e-Azam all the minorities have the equal rights to live and serve the country. She said that PML-Q manifesto protects the rights of minorities in the country.

Ambassadors of China, Sudan, Greece, South Korea, Czech Republic, Palestine, Iraq, Netherlands, Philippine, Russia and the high commissions of British, Bangladesh and Switzerland also participated in the ceremony.

MANSEHRA/BISHAM: Lauding the decision of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to quit the government, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain Thursday ruled out any possibility of joining the PPP-led government. 

He was talking to media persons in Thakot in Battagram district on Thursday after offering fateha for the departed soul of younger brother of former federal minister Alamzeb Khan.

Shujaat Hussain said the PML-Q had no intention of joining the government. “Although nothing is final in politics, I want to make it clear that we will not join the government which is on way to its logical end due to its wrong policies and corruption,” he said.

PML-Q Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Syed and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Amir Muqam were also present on the occasion.

The PML-Q president said that in the current situation party could decide to lend desperately needed support to the fragile PPP-led ruling coalition in the Centre, he said they were not in a hurry and would like to see new developments to take place.

The PML leader said they could take a decision on joining the federal government only after PPP would approach them. “We will put forward our conditions prior to any decision on becoming a part of the ruling coalition,” he maintained.

The senator, however, hastened to add that there were still some ifs and buts to be cleared before they could sit down with the PPP in case, they formally approached them at an appropriate level.

Shujaat made it clear it was known well to all the stake-holders, how important they were, particularly in the given political scenario.

When his attention was drawn towards Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani’s bid to woo the PML Like-Minded Group’s leader Senator Salim Saifullah, he said that they were not bothered by this development.

The PML leader contended there might be four or five MNAs with the Like-Minded Group, but overwhelming majority was with him. But he quickly added under the 18th amendment, all the legislators who were elected on his party ticket would have to toe the PML line.

About some hawks like Makhdoom Faisal Saleh Hayat, Shujaat said they were a democratic party and there was nothing wrong in voices of dissent on diverse matters.He said that they were being approached by various political parties from Muttahida Qaumi Movement to Jamaat-e-Islami.
