Karachi : A worker of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was shot dead and another injured in a clash with the supporters of the Awami National Party (ANP) in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar police limits on Thursday.
Dad Raheem Sanjrani, 35, was shot dead while Waheed, 30, injured with gunshot wounds in a clash between the workers of the ANP and the PPP at Sher Muhammad Goth in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar police jurisdiction.
The PPP workers shifted Waheed along with the body of Sanjrani to the JPMC.
According to the police, the ANP activists had been allegedly collecting extortion money from the shop owners in the area to which the PPP workers objected and tried to stop the ANP activists from doing so.
Upon the interference from the PPP activists, the ANP workers opened fire on Dad Raheem and Waheed and fled the scene under the cover of fire. Later, a mobile van of the Gulistan-e-Jauhar police reached the spot and took control of the situation. As the news of the death of Dad Raheem spread in the area, the PPP workers came out onto the streets and ordered the shop owners to close their businesses.
Two die in road accidents: Two people were killed and another was injured in two mishaps on Thursday.
Twenty-five-year-old Ghayyur died and his 35-year-old cousin Tausif was injured when a speeding dumper ran over them while they were riding their motorcycle near Shafiq More in the Gabol Town police limits.
In another incident, a 45-year-old unidentified man was injured when a speeding vehicle ran over him while he was crossing a road in the Orangi Town police jurisdiction. An ambulance took him to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in a critical condition. From there he was later shifted to the Civil Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Bandit killed in encounter: An alleged bandit was killed in an encounter with the Shahrae Noorjhan police on Thursday, police said.
According to them, a mobile of the said police was on patrol when they heard shouting of some people, who were being looted by robbers — three of them, riding motorcycles — and when they reached their for help, the armed men opened fire on them. The police retaliated and injured one of the robbers, who later died at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
