Asif Zardari got married to Tanveer Zamani according to Muslim Shiyat Bylaws in Dubai last week. The ceremony has not been held. However the marriage religious vows, paper work and prenuptials have been confirmed. Nine black goats, 6 cows and 1 camel was sacrificed at this sacred occasion. This happened 3 years after the assassination of Slain Bhutto. She is a Mediterranean descent American resident, and she lives in Gramercy Park, Manhattan, New York. Zamani is a practicing physician and known to be a Bhutto party loyalist. She earned PhD degree in International Politics from UK. She owns estates in London, Dubai, Islamabad and Manhattan. Zamani is a known Democrat and supported  Obama’s 2008 election campaign. She actively participated in Obama’s Health Care reform bill to make it a law. Recently, she has been prohibited to attend the public political meetings due to her security issues. Pres. Zardari in a meeting with Obama on 1/14/11 in DC, requested his help in acquiring security for Zamani.

Zardari is the widower of Benazir Bhutto, who twice served as Prime Minister of Pakistan. When his wife was assassinated in December 2007, he became the Chairman of the PPP. It has been claimed that Zardari is among the four richest men in Pakistan.  In the 1988 elections, Bhutto became Prime Minister, and Zardari became a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan. Zardari’s opponents began using the nickname, “Mr 10%”, in reference to the charges of corruption against him. This nickname referred to kickbacks he was alleged to have received during his wife’s premiership. He served in Jail from 1990 -1993 and 1997-2004.

It has been noticed that with the advent of Zamani in his life for the last 8 months, he has been changed a lot. A lot has been blogged about them on the web. He seemed to find refuge in trusting her loyalty to him more than the party. The couple might have faced many domestic, social and political issues before they decided to turn this long distance, under cover- relationship  into a life time partnership. It is welcomed as a wise decision since it is according to their religious perquisites and he needs a loyal partner in his life who could support him spiritually, physically and financially at his worse times. To choose a life partner might be a difficult decision for him before meeting Zamani, but she made it an easy shot to play since she seems not someone who would marry him for his assets and power. Pres. Zardari made a good deal to marry an American citizen, since next time he would not go to a prison , he will be pulled out by her to Manhattan. It is presumed that the couple will be officially announced at the end of his political Presidency term. Obviously, not until after the next elections.
Will the party or Zardari loose a lot of popularity he cashed after the death of his ex- wife? Or Zamani will give him a new fame, name, and a life with the happiness that he never found in the last one. His children Bakhtawar , Bilawal and Aseefa  must understand the needs of their father who after taking care of their mother’s party has already proven his Loyalty to Bhuttos. Now, its their turn to let him move on with Zamani and spend in Manhattan a life he deserves.

Many media analyst are still trying to find an evidence before they jump into this leak. They wonder what is behind this marriage;  Love, political move or Wealth. The event was supposed to be an undisclosed sentinel secret, but it is released through a fashion designer company by a UAE news agency

The fact is none of the parties have denied this leaked news yet.

Million march against Mubarak in Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA: Hundreds of thousands of protesters marched in Egypt's second city Alexandria on Tuesday calling for President Hosni Mubarak to quit, hoping to swell their numbers to a million on an eighth day of anger.

A vast crowd of smiling protesters massed in a light-hearted atmosphere in front of Qaed Ibrahim mosque near El-Raml station in the Mediterranean port before marching off down the corniche.

However, many protesters were staying away from the corniche, marching through side streets and making it impossible to accurately assess the crowd's size.

Organisers of the protests against Mubarak's three-decade rule called for a "march of a million" in Alexandria after the authorities cancelled all train services in a bid to stymie a similar march in Cairo on Tuesday.

The Alexandria demo took place at the same time as several hundred thousand people massed in Cairo's Tahrir Square, all demanding that Mubarak stand down.

Many demonstrators waved Egyptian flags, including one scrawled with "Get out you scum, go be with Zine El Abidine', in reference to Tunisian strongman Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, forced into exile by popular protests last month.

Members of popular committees set up after police evaporated from the street were checking identity papers, fearing that police troublemakers would infiltrate the crowd.

Nearby a group of angry protesters carried a symbolic Mubarak coffin, shouting "Mubarak is dead without God's mercy."

A sea of thousands cheered as one when a rumour spread quickly through the crowd the Mubarak had left the country, with many protesters prostrating to God.

The United Nations estimates that at least 300 people have been killed in clashes with police since protests began on January 25, demanding that Mubarak quit and calling for democracy, jobs and an end to corruption and human rights abuses.

Just released from hospital after losing his hand when he was caught up in protests on Friday, Osama Maghazi is now demonstrating. Police shotgun pellets blew off the fingers of one hand, which has now been amputated.

The port worker said that on Friday he happened to be passing by the protests when he became embroiled in the violence.

"It's the people's right to define their fate," Maghazi, in his 30s, said. "I never expected the people's will to be stronger than the regime but now it's the people's will that rules."

He said he was happy that the police mangling of his hand had spurred on protesters on Friday.

"The people demand the toppling of the president," the crowd shouted, along with "One people, one demand."

Protesters also sought to stress the popular nature of their demand for Mubarak to go, crying "No parties, no groups; it's a revolution by the youth."

A huge banner flapped under the Mediterranean winter sunshine, proclaiming: "We die and Egypt lives."

As part of the protest headed off down the corniche, they passed a just-married couple driving in the other direction and greeted them with celebratory whistling.

When asked what she thought of the protest, bride Nagla said: "I'm very happy people are happy for me, but I want Mubarak out."

At around dusk, many people began leaving the protest, having ignored the curfew that came into effect at 3:00 pm but with streets haunted by insecurity over looters.

President, PM approve ‘decisive operation’ for Karachi

President Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani directed the Sindh government to act against those involved in the unrest with full force and without discrimination

KARACHI: Approving a ‘decisive operation’ against elements involved in targeted killings in Karachi, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani have directed that peace must be restored in the city at all costs, DawnNews reported.

The decision was taken in a meeting of the Pakistan People’s Party’s senior leadership at the Aiwan-i-Sadr.

The meeting began Friday night and continued till the early hours of Saturday morning.

Key ministers and the party’s central leadership attended the meeting.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik briefed the meeting on Karachi’s law and order situation and the recent spate of targeted killings in the city and steps taken so far to restore normalcy.

President Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani directed the Sindh government to act against those involved in the unrest with full force and without discrimination.

Moreover, Rehman Malik flew to London where he is expected to meet Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain.

Malik is expected to take Hussain into confidence over the government’s planned course of action

SC declares appointment of NBP president unconstitutional

Ali Raza has been ordered to vacate the office of the bank's president with immediate effect.

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday declared the appointment of Ali Raza as the President of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) for the third time as unconstitutional.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry also ordered Raza to vacate the office of the bank’s president with immediate effect.

An NBP employee had filed a petition against Raza’s appointment.

The petition said that according to the rules Raza’s term could be extended only twice but former president of Pakistan Pervez Musharaf extended the term for the third time by an ordinance. It called the act unconstitutional.

The petition stated that the ordinance was made part of law under the finance act and was not approved by parliament, hence the extension was a violation of the Banking Nationalisation Act 1994.

President re-affirms confidence in PM

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has telephoned Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and re-affirmed confidence in the latter, said a statement issued by Presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar on Monday.

The President’s move came at a time when all kinds of speculations were circulating about a possible no-confidence move against the Prime Minister, particularly, after Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s joining of the opposition in the National Assembly and Senate.

The President assured the Prime Minister of standing in support of the latter (in case of any move against him), saying in would be ensured that the PM completes his term, the statement said. 

PM Gilani was also assured that he had full support of Pakistan People’s Party.

MQM sends resignations to President Zardari

KARACHI: The federal minister of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Tuesday dispatched their resignations to President Asif Ali Zardari.

According to a statement issued here from MQM’s Center Nine Zero, Federal Minister of Overseas Pakistanis, Farooq Sattar, and Federal Minister of Ports and Shipping, Babar Ghauri sent their resignations to President Zardari through fax.

The statement said the party’s reservations still exist, adding, ‘The government neither took MQM into confidence nor did have any consultations with it.’

It should be mentioned here that MQM decided to sever ties with the federal cabinet yesterday night.

President Asif Ali Zardari, in a public address here on Saturday, said the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) period of governance will be remembered for its service to people.

At the inauguration of Benazir Bhutto Apna Ghar housing scheme for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) employees here, he said:  “We have to live in history, while others want to live in tomorrow’s headlines.” He added that his government would create a better country than what it had received.

“We are turning their (Bhuttos) words into action and we are not merely raising slogans as we are not political actors. We are making and saving Pakistan,” he said.

He said he would monitor the performance of the prime minister, ministers and government officials.

The president said housing facilities will be provided to every Pakistani and workers will get ownership in government entities. He added that PIA would be regularised and their salaries will be increased.

President Zardari said he was only fulfilling his duty by giving rights to workers of OGDCL (Oil and Gas Development Company Limited), PIA, Civil Aviation Authority and other organisations.

He said those who martyred Benazir Bhutto, do not understand that the legacy of Zulfikar Bhutto lives on in every PPP worker.

The president said he realised that people were facing the problems of price hike and unemployment. “We will fight those who killed our countrymen, stabilise democracy and give rights to everybody,” he said, adding that nations face challenges in their history and Sri Lanka fought for 40 years to get through difficult times.

The president stressed that nobody should be allowed to impose their views through the gun barrel and dictate their brand of Islam.

President Zardari urged people to work hard by following the motto of Quaid-e-Azam and help achieve goals of ending terrorism and alleviating poverty and unemployment.

“We are the citizens of this soil and our forefathers lived here.  We have to save this land and secure the future of our children,” he said.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusaf Raza Gilani called on President Asif Ali Zardari at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Tuesday and discussed prevailing political situation in the country. 

According to sources, they also discussed the reservations of MQM besides relations with coalition partners.

They discussed the recent visit of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao to Pakistan and the President’s forthcoming visit to Turkey, the spokesman for the President House said. 

They also exchange views on the rumors of change of Balochistan government.

Mirza patronising Lyari gangsters, alleges MQM

KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has strongly condemned the speech of Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza to the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and accused him of threatening the Urdu speaking people.

Talking to The News exclusively from London on Monday, Member MQM Rabita Committee Mustafa Azizabadi said the Sindh Home Minister, Mirza had given a direct threat to the Urdu speaking people.

When asked whether the statement could harm the Sindh coalition government, he said such statements would create bitterness between the MQM and PPP. He agreed that the MQM and PPP would be at loggerheads following the statement.

When asked whether the MQM would pull out of the coalition, he said it was for the Rabita Committee to decide as the party always takes important decisions at this forum.

Mustafa said President Asif Ali Zardari should take notice of the irresponsible speech given by Sindh home minister, who was a custodian of the people.

Mustafa said as the home minister, it was his responsibility to provide protection of life and property to the citizens but he had instead issued a threatening statement.

He asked what Mirza meant by asking Sindhis, Baloch, Pathans and other nationalities to get united and “take guns at Urdu speaking people”, adding that it was a direct threat to the Urdu speaking people.

Referring to his statement that Dr Imran was murdered in London but killings started in Karachi, Mustafa said this was a totally wrong statement. He said not a single incident (of killings) took place in Karachi. On the contrary, on the third day, the MQM Rabita Committee held a press conference over the issue of target killings and asked why the target killings were on the rise. He accused Dr Zulfiqar Mirza of providing shelter to the Bhatta and land mafias and Lyari gangsters.

Mustafa said every industrialist of Karachi was fully aware as to who distributed “parchis” (extortion chits).

He further said that former prime minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in Rawalpindi on December 27, 2007 but thousands of cars were torched, industrial units and factories were looted and banks robbed. Karachi had never witnessed such a devastation, he added.

He asked as to why he (Mirza) did not take action against those criminals. Mustafa asked whether the people of Karachi had assassinated Benazir when in revenge the whole of Karachi was made ground zero.

He also deplored the statement claiming that 26 of the arrested target killing accused belonged to the biggest political party of Karachi. Mustafa said, “As the Sindh home minister, you cannot issue such an irresponsible statement on the media. You should provide concrete proof and evidence in court.”

Mustafa further accused Dr Zulfiqar Mirza of providing shelter to killers of Shershah Kabari Bazaar, adding the killers had not been arrested yet. He alleged that land and drug mafias were being provided shelter by Dr Zulfiqar Mirza.

Another federal minister and Rabita Committee member of the MQM said on condition not to be named that it looks that some PPP high ups had asked Mirza to issue such a statement as the issue of RGST was on top these days. Since the MQM is not supporting the bill, that was why Mirza had lashed out at the Muttahida. He said MQM was mentally prepared to part ways with the PPP.

Deputy Convener and Member MQM Rabita Committee Dr Farooq Sattar was also contacted on phone to get his comments but he said that he had just landed in Dubai and was not aware of the contents of Mirza’s speech.

Another Rabita committee member Wasay Jalil was asked whether the MQM was still in coalition with the PPP, Jalil said the MQM was in coalition with President Asif Ali Zardari and it was unconditional.

Meanwhile, the Coordination Committee of the MQM went into an emergency joint session in Karachi and London on Monday to discuss the “provocative speech” of Zulfiqar Mirza.

The meeting discussed in detail the speech and expressed grave concern over it. It was decided in the meeting that a delegation of the MQM would meet President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani after Muharram and give them the DVD of the speech and inform them about the concerns of the MQM.

It was said in the meeting that at a time when members of the Coordination Committee, elected representatives and office-bearers of the MQM were busy in promoting unity among Muslims and religious harmony in connection with maintaining peace during the month of Muharram, the provocative speech made by the provincial home minister was a cause of concern and not without reason.

The meeting demanded of President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani to take a serious note of the unwarranted provocative speech of the minister and ask him to explain his position. The committee asked the elected representatives and office-bearers of the party not to be provoked by the statement and continue working for maintaining peace during Muharram. THE NEWS

MQM demands Prime Minister and President take notice of Zulfiqar Mirza's comments

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Monday demanded that the Prime Minister and the President take notice of Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza’s aggressive speech.

The MQM summoned an emergency meeting in its London and Karachi offices following allegations by the Sindh home minister that the MQM, along with all major political parties, is involved in target killings.

The MQM also decided to send a delegation to Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and President Asif Zardari after the 10th of Muharram to convey the party’s reservations against Mirza’s statements.

Mirza had earlier alleged that all major political parties in Karachi were involved in target killings. He had also claimed that certain factions of the trader’s community were providing funds to various banned outfits.

The home minister made these comments while addressing a seminar at the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

At the seminar, Mirza revealed that law enforcement agencies have arrested 60 people allegedly involved in target killings in the city during the year, saying that 26 of them were associated with a major political party in Karachi.

Mirza also announced that the government would compensate victims of target killings.
