Ban on pillion riding to be lifted tonight

KARACHI: The ban on pillion riding is likely to be lifted in the city by 12am tonight.
The reports told the government does not intend to extend the ban.
On the other hand, the people of the city appreciated the decision because they were facing lot of problems because of pillion riding ban.

The Sindh home department issued a notification on Saturday, announcing the extension of the ban on pillion riding in Karachi, due to the rising number of target killings.

To curb violence and the ensuing death toll in Karachi, the Sindh Home Department has extended the ban on pillion riding for another 7 days.The order was communicated through a notification issued by the Home department on Saturday.

Display of weapons, aerial firing, wall chalking are also banned. The notification also appealed to people in Karachi for their cooperation to restore peace in the city.

Women, senior citizens, disabled persons, children under 12 years of age, journalists and personnel of law-enforcement agencies are exempt from the ban.

Earlier, on Monday, a ban on pillion riding for seven days wasannounced.

Hundreds held in Karachi for defying pillion riding ban

KARACHI: As many as 435 people riding bikes were arrested from different parts of the metropolis on Monday morning over violation of pillion riding ban.


Several announcements were made by the authorities last night to curb the recent wave of violence in Karachi. However, the pillion riding ban is being implemented more rigorously.


As people left their homes for offices, police got into action and arrested hundreds of bike riders.


Most of those held by the police say they are unaware of the ban.


The arrested persons have been sent behind bars in different police stations.

Pillion riding banned in Karachi for seven days

KARACHI: The Sindh Government has imposed a complete ban on pillion riding in the city for seven days.


The ban was lifted just a month ago, but has been reimposed after increasing incidents of target killings.


While talking to journalists, Interior Minister Rehman Malik announced to impose a partial curfew in some sensitive areas of the city and a ban on pillion riding temporarily.


The pillion riding ban was lifted on October 16, 2010, after 21 months, and has been imposed again.


The ban will not be applicable to women, children below the age of 12 years, senior citizens, disabled persons, journalists, personnel of law enforcement agencies in uniform and employees of essential services.


Citizens have condemned the act saying the ban increases their problems in routine life as public transport is expensive and time consuming.

Ban on pillion riding imposed again in Khi

KARACHI: Complete ban has been imposed on pillion riding in Karachi from midnight Sunday for an indefinite period, CCPO Karachi Fayyaz Leghari said.

Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza in this regard said the ban on pillion riding has been imposed until further orders.

He also appealed to the Karachiites to extend their cooperation for restoring peace to the city. “Those disrupting the peace of the city will crushed with an iron hand,” he added.

Pillion riding ban lifted in Karachi: CCPO

KARACHI: The ban on pillion riding in the city has been lifted on Monday (today); the news has been welcomed by people.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Karachi Fayaz Leghari told SAMAA that the notification regarding the ban on pillion riding was effective till 12:00am, December 19, 2010.

He said no new notification has been received from the Home Department yet.

The CCPO said the ban could be re-imposed if the Home Ministry issues orders.

On the other hand, Sindh's Home Minister told the media yesterday that the ban had been extended till Chehlum.
