Court: Orders to arrest top KESC boss

KARACHI: District and Sessions Judge, Malir, Syed Kausar Bokhari has ordered issuance of non-bailable arrest warrants for Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) CEO Tabish Gauhar on charges of unintentional murder.

The judge ordered the Malir Cantonment SHO to arrest Gauhar and present him in court on February 17.

According to the prosecution, the negligence of the higher KESC officials, including Gauhar, caused the death of a 17-year-old boy, Fahadur Rehman, in Malir Cantonment. Residents had complained of snapped wires that had fallen on the ground and were posing a serious threat, however, KESC officials had allegedly ignored the complaints. Rehman was electrocuted by these same wires and the family blamed the negligent officials for his death. The police had filed a challan and had nominated Gauhar as an ‘absconder’. Meanwhile, the other three KESC officials, including two general managers and an area manager, have acquired bail-before-arrest approved by the court.

Pagara also claimed that the current government will not complete its tenure due to ‘rampant corruption.’

KARACHI: Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) Chief Pir Pagara on Saturday said that only a martial law or stern action against the perpetrators of violence in Karachi can put the city in order.

Speaking to the media after meeting Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and senior party leader Mushahid Hussain, Pagara also claimed that the current government will not complete its tenure due to ‘rampant corruption.’

PML-Q leader Mushahid Hussain stated that the country’s economy will not improve until law and order is restored in Karachi.

He also said the PML-Q had no plans to form its government in Punjab.

Earlier, Hussain had met with Awami National Party (ANP) provincial president, Shahi Syed at Mardan House, where he had criticised the government for failing to control the situation in the city. He also called on the government to take responsibility for the operation in Karachi.
