The Pakistan Cricket Board have imposed a blanket ban on members of the national team using social networking sites.
The crackdown comes in the wake of Zulqarnain Haider's recent escapades on Facebook after he fled the team hotel in Dubai midway through a one-day series against South Africa.
The board has also brought all the centrally contracted players under the umbrella of the directive, implying no Pakistani cricketer will be allowed to use Facebook or Twitter.
Pakistan manager Intikhab Alam confirmed the directive, but maintained the ban was part of a clause in the players' contract with the board.
"There is a clause in their contracts which states clearly they can't use these social network sites or discuss cricket issues while under contract," Alam said.
"It is for their own good so that they don't get entangled into controversies."
Pakistan's wicketkeeper-batsman Haider dramatically fled to London and claimed he had been approached in Dubai by a person who asked him to fix the fourth and fifth games against South Africa in early November.
He subsequently announced his retirement from international cricket which followed his central contract being suspended by the board.
